Liwanag & Kadiliman Anthologies Book Cover Illustrations

Independent book store and publisher, 8letters, commissioned me to create double book covers for their new #MitolohiyaPH anthologies, Liwanag and Kadiliman! They wanted a diwata and a bakunawa to be on the covers.
On Liwanag, the diwata would be at the bottom, while the bakunawa would be at the top, and vice versa on the Kadiliman cover.

I proposed three studies for them, and they picked the third one! From there, I sent them a refined sketch of the two covers. Once they approved of these, we proceeded to the actual illustration.

I enjoyed creating these book covers for 8letters! It was my first time to create double book covers. Though the process wasn’t as easy and simple as rotating the elements! We still had to change the colors, the lighting, as well as the background of the bakunawa in Kadiliman, which was made to look more like a sea with drops of water around it.
