Heart Like a Pond

Watercolor on paper, exhibit work under Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan for Art in the Park 2022, framed

I pray for my puddle heart to be bigger, just around the size of the pond at the outskirts of town.

My heart, once it expands, can let your paper boat sail and the trees can drop their leaves, twigs, branches, and petals, and I can take them all in without being bothered or burdened.

I can embrace your whims, your thoughts, your dreams, and your fears, because my space—my heart like a pond—can accommodate all that you are.

To show the expansion of the heart, I made borders to give that illusion, and they would have different shades and placement from the elements within the other rectangles.

I also emphasized the little things that can be found in the pond like sticks, petals, flowers, and even a tiny paper boat.

The dark blues and blacks show the night sky’s reflection on the pond.
