I put in a lot of work this week. Phew! And also adding weekly thank you’s at the end of this post, so that I can practice my gratitude muscle!
reading ‘Meet Me Here’ by Bea Reyes. She sent this to me as a gift last December. I’ve only finished the first part, and I can say that I found comfort in her words.
writing four things at the moment: a comic idea for this year is one, one is for a competition I want to join, while the other two, I can't share yet!
drawing a book cover spread for my friend!
learning more about managing one’s emotions. I’m an emotional person and a highly sensitive one, so I feel things deeply and tend to act on them. Constantly reminding myself that I must act better than what I feel.
listening Zero o’ Clock by BTS (My friend KB shared it with me the other night when we were having a heart-to-heart talk, and “And you’re gonna be happy” served as a promise I look forward to and as a reminder that I can be happy when I am grateful; Sunrise - The Breakfast Song by Satoshi Takebe and Aoi Tejima from Studio Ghibli’s From Up on Poppy Hill, which is the one of my go-to songs for a pick-me-up; and V’s Christmas Tree :’-)
thanking my Mom who shows me her true love and strength and for God who gives us enough strength to go through every single day.
hoping for our cat Oli to recover from his neuter surgery and for Timon to get stronger
This touched my heart. :’-) From the Valentine’s event of Fate/Grand Order
playing the Valentine’s event of Fate/Grand Order featuring Murasaki Shikibu, author of The Tale of Genji, and Sei Shounagon, author of The Pillow Book! I’m enjoying this, since it’s about two female Japanese writers!
watching Attack on Titan (Season 1). Julie told me years ago to watch it, but I said it’s too violent for me. I’ve seen other friends post about it too throughout the years, but it was still a no from me. I do want to watch it, I really do, but I guess anime with violent themes aren’t my first choice to watch, because I tend to feel the characters’ emotions and thoughts while watching! Then my friend and I got to talk about it again earlier, and I guess that made me finally watch it. I just watched the first two episodes. To process it, I need to write down my thoughts! I’m still at the very beginning. I’m sure my questions would be answered in the latter seasons!
When Eren said to Hannes they were like cattle, that painted a clear picture of what they were like in the eyes of the titans. Just food that they can mercilessly feast on. No human being would want to live just like that, hiding in fear and anticipating a titan getting inside the wall at the back of his mind. As if their fate has been written off already as just food for these large beings.
Shiganshina is at the south edge of Wall Maria. I thought to myself: who gets to say they would be the ones to live there where they could easily be attacked by titans? So there’s this hierarchy or class that put them there, and it just shows that in the eyes of the people who put them there, they are lives that can just be sacrificed. Which is why Eren was angry when someone said that the refugees from Shiganshina were just going to deplete the food resources and that the titans could have eaten at least more of them so there won’t be a food shortage now in their wall. The people of Shiganshina saw first-hand the titans and felt utmost terror. And I can only imagine how living would be like at the edge where sooner or later, even with a century of peace, the wall can come crushing down at a step of a titan.
In the latter part of the second episode of season 1, in the year 846, the Royal Government sent around 250,000 refugees to ‘reclaim Wall Maria’ but it was just to lessen the population in the inner wall, so the food shortage would be solved, at least for the time being. Again, it gives me thought to ponder about why there are seemingly dispensable lives to the government. Why did Armin’s grandfather have to go? They too were at the mercy of those inside, living comfortably in the inner walls. This was the word they lived in, and death by being eaten by a titan can is the worst to have, the worst to witness.
needing to exercise again. It’s been a week or two that I haven’t gotten any! Also to recalibrate my working schedule. I work from Monday to Saturday by choice and by necessity, but I need to consider getting in breaks there and time for exercise and journaling…
feeling tired because of the week that has passed but thankful for it! I needed to monitor Oli to see if his surgery site is okay and that he doesn’t lick it, so I mostly stayed in the room with him. He’s an outdoor cat (who also likes to go indoors!), and while he misses the outside world, I can tell he’s living comfortably inside. But I’m sure his little sister Bonnie misses him! So while I’m with him, I get to do more work done! I’m excited to share more of that, but that will be for another time!
